Everyone knows that too much of anything is bad. Butter, for example, is not good for you- it is linked to cholesterol and heart disease. So, many turn to alternatives, such as margarine. However, it is now found that margarine is MORE harmful than butter ever was!
Margarine is made out of vegetable oils and in order to solidify these oils, the process of hydrogenation is used. The thing is, this chemical process leads to the creation of trans fats which are worse than the saturated fats found in butter!
This does mean that when there’s a competition between butter and margarine, health- wise, butter is better for you. HOWEVER, if we’re talking about overall health, limiting both in your diet is your best bet.
Even better? Use good olive oil to replace both butter and margarine. Although it may seem like the fat and calorie content of olive oil is just about the same as the other two culprits, olive oil contains GOOD fats that actually are good for your body!
