Ciao, everyone! Welcome to this week’s blog about the great country of Italy! Italy is home to 61.6 million people. The capital is Roma, which is also called the ‘Eternal City!’! Italy is home to many beautiful cities full of rich history, architecture, and culture. What do you think of when you think of the wonderful country of Italy? I think of the many notable things, such as the Pope, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Sistine Chapel, the historic buildings, and the fashion. The most important part of Italy, I think at least, is the food! Many people automatically think of spaghetti and pizza when they think of Italian food. Well, I tell ya that’s what I think of too! Pizza is probably the most famous dish to come from Italy and was invented around 1860 in the thriving waterfront city Naples. An old story about the beginnings of the popularity of pizza goes a little something like this … In 1869, Queen Margherita of Savoy was visiting the gorgeous city of Naples when she became bored with her diet. She then requested an assortment of pizzas from the city’s Pizzeria Brandi, a local pizzeria. The Queen’s favorite combination was a pie topped with white cheese, red tomatoes, and green basil, which featured all the colors of the Italian flag! This popular combination became known as the Margherita Pizza, as you all may have heard. From then on, pizza became the next big thing in Italy, making it one of the most popular foods in Italy and the world!
I love pizza! There are so many ways to make a pizza based on your likings! With a huge variety of options, you can try lots of different combinations by changing an ingredient or a few, ranging from types of pizza dough, the sauce, the cheese to many more topping choices! You can make it traditional or something totally different! It can be a meat lover’s pizza, vegetarian, gluten free, or vegan. Making pizza with family can be so fun! It can be something everyone of all ages can do because it is so simple and very delicious!
Here’s how I like to make my pizzas!
First, here’s what you’ll need:
Toppings of your choice
First, I go to my favorite local market at home and buy some fresh made pizza dough, pizza sauce, and some toppings. My favorite toppings are pepperoni, onions, and artichokes!
Now, on my pizza pan, I spread out the dough nice and evenly, using a little bit of flour when needed. Then, I spread my sauce around the dough leaving a little bit of room around the edges for the crust. Next, I sprinkle my cheese on top of my sauce. My favorite is some good ‘ole mozzarella! After, I put on my toppings. I like more onions and artichoke than pepperoni, so that’s how I decide how much to put on my pizza. Now, once the oven is heated to 400 degrees, I put my pizza in for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the crust is crisp!
This pizza is only my favorite kind to make, but you should make your own unique pie!
Arrivederci (or until next time)!
